Qormi Farmhouses for Rent

Find your next home nearby Malta's biggest bakery town.

Ask most people what Qormi’s known for, and you’ll hear bread before you hear anything about the countryside. The town’s wood-fired ovens have been going for generations, and its two parishes spend all year building up to their festas. But walk far enough past the last row of houses, and the streets give way to open ground, and that’s where the farmhouses to rent in Qormi actually are. A drive of ten minutes to the airport, fifteen to Valletta, and a rental market where a garden and a bit of land still cost less than a flat on the coast.

What Renting a Farmhouse in Qormi Actually Gets You

A long-term rental in Qormi isn’t a scaled-down version of a Sliema flat with a garden bolted on. It’s a different way of living, built around the fact that the property sits on the edge of a working town instead of inside a tourist one.

Space is the obvious trade. Bedrooms that run to three or four rather than one or two, courtyards big enough for a table and chairs rather than a Juliet balcony, and in the better ones, a plot with room for the kids or the dog to actually run. What you give up is the five-minute walk to a beach or a promenade.

The other trade is quieter than people expect. Out past Tal-Ħlas and towards the Żebbuġ side, Qormi is agricultural land that’s stood mostly unbothered since before the town grew up around it. Roman-era finds have turned up in the valley running through the middle. You’re renting a small piece of ground that’s been farmed for longer than most of Malta’s coastline has had a hotel on it.

The Range of Farmhouses in Qormi

Converted Farm Buildings

Genuine converted farmhouses keep the limestone shell and the courtyard layout, with the interior rebuilt for modern living.

Shared Courtyard Clusters

Several of Qormi’s farmhouses come in small groups, four or five houses sharing a gated courtyard and parking between them. You get the privacy of a standalone property without quite the isolation, and usually a lower rent than a fully detached equivalent.

Older, Spacious Units on Quieter Streets

Step back from the seafront, and you’ll find older apartment blocks with roomy interiors and wider living spaces. These streets are quieter, and many residents prefer them for long-term living because they have more space at a better price while still being minutes from the coastline.

Penthouses with Terraces

Penthouses in Bugibba often come with generous outdoor areas, making them a good match for renters who like to entertain or want extra space for plants and seating. Some terraces enjoy sweeping views of the bay, and many penthouses have upgraded interiors or open-plan layouts.

Living in Qormi Throughout the Year

Spring

The fields around the area are at their greenest, and it’s also when Holy Week takes over the town centre, with vendors out selling qagħaq tal-Appostli on the narrow streets you’ll drive through to get anywhere.

Summer

The valleys brown off, and the heat sits harder inland than it does on the coast, which is the argument for a pool if the property has one, or at least a shaded courtyard if it doesn’t. Festa season lands here too, and from a farmhouse out on the edge, you get the fireworks without the crowd underneath them.

Autumn

The rain comes back, and the fields with it, and Qormi’s Wine Festival draws people out from the rest of the island.

Winter

The quietest stretch by far, and the season that tells you the truth about whether you need a car. If the property is any distance from the main road, a wet evening without one is a long one.

FAQs About Farmhouses for Rent in Qormi

Why does Qormi have farmhouses if it's known for bread?

Qormi was one of Malta’s main farming districts long before it became known for baking, and its bakeries grew out of that agricultural history instead of replacing it. The farmland on the town’s outskirts was never built over, which is why converted farmhouses still stand there today. The town itself grew dense in the centre while the edges stayed rural.

Farmhouses cluster on Qormi’s outer edges rather than in the two parish centres, mainly around Tal-Ħlas and along the boundary shared with Żebbuġ. Properties nearer the valleys that run through the locality tend to have the greenest outlook. The choice mostly comes down to how far you’re willing to be from a shop or a bus stop.

Having a car is a good idea if you’re renting in Qormi. Most farmhouse properties sit outside the town centre where bus routes run less often, and winter evenings make the gap obvious fast. Tenants in close proximity to the main roads and amenities manage better without one than those tucked further into the fields.

There’s not a set list of what’s included in a traditional farmhouse rental in Qormi. It varies by property, so check the individual listing rather than assuming. Gardens and courtyards are common across the stock, pools appear on a smaller number of the larger properties, and some come with access to adjoining agricultural land. Furnishing levels differ too, so confirm this with the agent before viewing.
